What is Motion Design?
Motion Design is the art form of animating graphics to create the illusion of motion, in order to convey information, emotions, and stories.
Here you can find some projects that I’ve worked on within the discipline of Motion Design.
A Short History of Digital Motion Graphics
My segment as part of a short animation film, showcasing the history of Motion Design. My project partner focused on analogue methods, whilst I showed examples from the Digital era. As part of this film, I was required to employ a variety of techniques in Adobe After Effects, as well as create my own graphics and short video clips to be used.
This was another great project to develop my visual story telling skills, and as we had absolute free reign on how to interpret the prompt “What is Motion Design?” I did a lot of research in selecting various digital milestones to show in the video. I recreated the opening title sequences to the films ‘Vertigo’ and ‘TRON’ with my own video’s and graphics, which I found to be a lot of fun!
Kinetic Typography Storytelling
As part of another collaborative project, I was tasked with creating a short animation based on the use of Kinetic Typography - where I created all the visuals to accompany a sound clip. We opted to base our Typography on a storytelling segment, using an audio clip from the video game, Portal 2. It was a lot of fun to create visuals for audio cues, such as; alarms blaring, elevators accelerating, and even just changes in the pacing and inflection of the character’s voice.
